This page explains the review behind the statement "1,300+ watch brands reviewed. Independent test reports are rare." Last updated: 2026-07-14 · pre-launch.
We built a census of the watch-brand landscape, focused on micro-brands and the tool / dive / tactical / field segment REDTIM competes in. The base list is the public Micro Brand Watch Database (mbwdb.com), captured in June 2026, of roughly 1,300 brands. To that we added brands from independent watch media and our own competitor tracking, then removed duplicates — giving a working set of ≈1,339 brands considered.
By "independent test report" we mean a publicly accessible, third-party laboratory report — published on, or directly linked from, the brand's own materials, and tied to a specific model. We did not count: in-house testing without a third-party lab, marketing statements such as "field-tested" or "torture-tested" with no report, or results shown only to customers after purchase.
The full ≈1,300-brand census was reviewed at market level. On top of that, roughly 185 brands were checked one by one in detail — the core tool / dive / tactical / engineering brands, plus any brand whose marketing claimed testing, "lab", "MIL-STD" or similar.
In other words, independent, published test reports are rare across the segment, and a full, openly published test battery per model is — as far as this review found — not being done. That gap is what REDTIM plans to fill: the full battery of independent laboratory results, published before any payment is requested.
This is a market review, not an exhaustive audit of every brand. Figures are as of June 2026 and reflect what was publicly available at that time; brands may add or remove information. "Independent report" is defined as above; a different definition would give a different count. REDTIM's own tests are planned and have not yet been performed — no result is claimed until the signed reports exist.
